VectorGen’s ultimate mission is to develop a delivery system to introduce genetic material into living humans that will protect against the HIV virus. The therapeutic construct delivered codes for a cleverly designed nested regulatory system that activates the defensive genes upon HIV challenge; neutralizes the invading pathogen; and then shuts off its own replication once the HIV threat has been eradicated. Additionally, the vector’s auto-regulation is temporarily disinhibited during HIV challenge, allowing the vector to transduce new populations of T-cells for on-going protection. Our design represents an out-of-the-box approach to in vivo gene delivery: the vector is both replication-competent, and auto-inhibiting.
We offer a means for the prevention and cure of HIV that will fundamentally alter the approach to HIV/AIDS treatment using a unique platform technology that can also be applied to the treatment of other viral infections of broad social and medical significance.
